CCM Dar es Salaam regional publicity secretary Juma Simba reacts to journalists’ questions after a ruling party press conference he addressed in Dar es Salaam yesterday.Dar es Salaam. Expectations that the ruling party would come out and speak about the decision by former Prime Minister Edward Lowassa to defect to Chadema didn’t materialise yesterday after a highly publicised press conference was turned into an occasion to thank the media for “its good work” .
The public’s ears were trained on CCM since Tuesday when it announced through its various social media platforms that it would give an important message to the public through yesterday’s media address.
The public interest was built as the announcement followed on the night Mr Lowassa, who has been a long serving CCM member and leader in government, defected.
Journalists flocked the 300-seat capacity Peacock Hotel hall at the in Dar es Salaam in anticipation that CCM leaders would share their views on the now most talked about defection. The press conference was to be beamed live on local TV.
However, that did not happen as no senior CCM official turned up as expected. Instead, it was CCM Dar es Salaam regional publicity secretary Mr Juma Simba who appeared to address the apprehensive journalists. Interestingly, Mr Simba announced he had only come “to thank journalists for the good coverage” of the CCM presidential candidate’s rally in Dar es Salaam more than fortnight ago.
“I am here to thank you for good coverage of Dr Magufuli’s rally at Zakhiem grounds. I am here also to urge Nec (National Electoral Commission) to increase BVR kits as well as personnel to make sure that all eligible voters are registered,” said Mr Simba to the uproar of reporters.
Asked why it has taken more than two weeks for them to ‘thank the media for good coverage of the rally, Mr Simba replied, “we haven’t held any meeting with you since then and you know it is election time party leaders are busy.”
Responding to reporters’ questions about Mr Lowassa defection, Mr Simba said CCM wouldn’t collapse and it is the right of any member to join or quit CCM.
Quizzed why it’s him who was speaking about the matter and not national leaders, Mr Simba replied “who said I am not CCM national leader? I am speaking about this issue because it happened in Dar es Salaam and I am the spokesperson for the region.” He added, “Secondly, Mr Nape (Nnauye-CCM publicity secretary) is in Mtama for CCM primaries and Secretary General, Mr Kinana (Abdulrahaman) is occupied with other duties.”
Mesothelioma Survival Rates About 40 percent of patients with mesothelioma survive the first year after diagnosis. That survival rate depends on many factors, including age, cancer stage, cancer type, race and gender. Long-term survivors attribute their success to treatment from a mesothelioma specialist, alternative medicine and nutritional changes. Average mesothelioma survival rates Mesothelioma claimed nearly 30,000 American lives between 1999 and 2010. About 40 percent of U.S. patients live to the one year mark. By the second year, about 20 percent of patients are still alive. And by the third year, the number is 8 percent. How is survival rate measured? Researchers describe the mesothelioma survival rate in several ways. They usually talk about it in terms of one-year survival, the percentage of people who survive for a year after diagnosis. Through their studies, they also look at longer survival times, including the number of people who live two years, three years and five years
